 Teacher: Taylor Beckwith

Schedule
Elementary: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Lewis Elementary)
Middle School: Thursday and Friday

In the State of Missouri, “gifted children” mean those who “exhibit precocious development of mental capacity and learning potential as determined by competent professional evaluation to the extent that continued educational growth and stimulation could best be served by an academic environment beyond that offered through a standard grade level curriculum.”

Eligibility process for screening and identification of students for Bright Ideas (gifted) program

∙ First and second graders will be considered for Bright Ideas screening. If a higher grade level student transfers into the district and through record review is a possible candidate for the program, they may go through the same screening process as first and second graders.

∙ Initial selection of students for screening for the Bright Ideas program is determined through review of the second semester district reading achievement assessment.

∙ Students who score at or above the 85 th percentile on the reading assessment will be administered a district math achievement assessment before the end of the school year.

∙ If the student’s math score does not fall at or above the 85th percentile, the screening will end and the student will not be eligible for further assessment. Students who do not pass the screening may be screened one more time the following year during the screening period (end of school year).

∙ At the beginning of the next school year, students who score at or above the 85th percentile on the math assessment will be administered a standardized individual achievement test.

∙ If the student’s achievement score is at or above the 95th percentile, the student will be administered a standardized creativity test.

∙ If the student’s creativity score is at or above the 95th percentile, the student will be administered an intelligence test. If the student’s intelligence test score is at or above the 95th percentile, the student is eligible to participate in the Bright Ideas program.
